About

Glossa Psycholinguistics publishes contributions to the field of psycholinguistics in the broad sense. These should combine empirical and theoretical perspectives, and illuminate our understanding of the nature of language. Submissions from all fields and theoretical perspectives on any psycholinguistic topic are appropriate, as are submissions focusing on any level of linguistic analysis (sounds, words, sentences, etc.) or population (adults, children, non-native speakers, etc.). Methods and approaches include e.g. experimentation, computational modeling, corpus analyses, and cognitive neuroscience. Contributions should be of interest to psycholinguists and other scholars interested in language.

Submission Checklist

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it being considered for publication by another journal (or an explanation has been provided in a cover letter).
  2. Any third-party-owned materials used have been identified with appropriate credit lines, and permission obtained from the copyright holder for all formats of the journal.

Copyright Notice

The following is an agreement between Glossa Psycholinguistics (the Journal) and the submitter (the Author), governing the work currently being submitted, including the primary contribution as well as any supporting materials such as an abstract, data sets, media files, figures, or tables created by the Author and any co-authors (the Submission).

The Journal is an open access journal which means that all content is freely available without charge to readers or their institutions. Users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author.

1. As consideration for publication in the Journal, the Author grants the Journal the following rights:
1.1. A non-exclusive, irrevocable, royalty-free right to publish, reproduce, publicly display, publicly perform and distribute the Work in perpetuity throughout the world in all means of expression by any method or media now known or hereafter developed; and
1.2. A non-exclusive, irrevocable, royalty-free right to license others, including databases or printing vendors, to do any or all of the above on a non-exclusive basis.
1.3. Permission to publish the full Work or excerpts of the Work on related social media websites such as Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Vimeo, and Twitter. The Journal agrees that when doing so the Author will always be fully credited.

2. The Author warrants that:
2.1. The Author is the author of the Submission, or is authorized to act on behalf of the author(s) and copyright holder (if different from the author(s)), and has the power to convey the rights granted in this agreement.
2.2. If the Submission has multiple authors, the other authors are identified in the Submission, and the Author will inform the other authors of the terms of this agreement.
2.3. Any textual, graphic or multimedia material included in the Submission that is the intellectual property or work of another is identified and cited in the Submission.
2.4. If the Submission reproduces any material that is the intellectual property of another, the Author has received permission to publish that material in the Submission, or the material is being incorporated based on an informed, reasonable, and good faith application of fair use.
2.5. The Submission is the original work of the Author(s). To the best of the Author’s knowledge, it does not contain matter that is obscene, libelous, or defamatory; it does not knowingly violate another’s right of privacy, right of publicity, or other legal right; does not contain false or misleading statements; and is otherwise not unlawful.
2.6. The Submission has not been previously published, and is not pending review elsewhere. If this is not the case, the Author will provide the Journal with information about the other locations where the Submission appears or is pending review, and about the journals where the Submission has been considered for publication before (including how reviews from this submission were taken into account). Prior distribution of a Submission does not mean a Submission will not be considered for publication; the Journal is primarily concerned with other appearances in equivalent publications that are subject to rigorous peer-review (journals, book chapters, and peer-reviewed conference proceedings).
2.7. If the Author is a student, the Author agrees to share their work and waive any privacy rights granted by FERPA or any other law, policy or regulation, with respect to the Submission, for the purpose of publication. If the Author has any student co-authors, the Author will obtain a signed copy of this agreement from those co-authors.
2.8. The Submission complies with all relevant Journal policies and submission guidelines provided on the Journal’s website at the time of submission, including any policies on conflict of interest, informed consent, human and animal rights, or appropriate content.

3. Indemnification
The Author will indemnify and hold the Journal harmless against loss, damages, expenses, awards, and judgments arising from breach of any of the above warranties.

4. Author’s Rights and Obligations
4.1. Nothing in this agreement constitutes a transfer of the copyright by the Author. As such, the Author retains all rights not expressly granted herein, including but not limited to, the right:
4.1.1. To reproduce and distribute the Submission, and to authorize others to reproduce and distribute the Submission, in any format;
4.1.2. To post the Submission in an institutional repository or the Author’s personal or departmental web page.
4.1.3. To include the Submission, in whole or in part, in another work.
4.2. If the Author distributes the Submission on another website or in another publication (as described above), the Journal will be cited as the source of first publication.

5. Rights for Readers
The Journal and the Author agree that the Submission will be distributed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), or other later version of the same license, that allows others to copy, distribute, translate, adapt, and build upon the Submission, even commercially, as long as they provide appropriate credit to the author(s). Anyone who uses or redistributes the Submission under this license must indicate any changes that were made, must link to the license, and cannot imply that the author(s) endorse them or their use. More information about this license is available at https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/.

6. Termination
The Author agrees to the terms of this agreement for the Submission being considered for publication. If the Submission is declined, this agreement is terminated.

Peer Review

To ensure the integrity of the masked peer-review for submission to this journal, every effort should be made to prevent the identities of the authors and reviewers from being known to each other. This involves the authors, editors, and reviewers (who upload documents as part of their review) checking to see if the following steps have been taken with regard to the text and the file properties.

1. The authors of the document need not delete any references to their own work, but should avoid revealing their identity with those references (e.g. do not say ‘In Jones et al (2015), we argue that…’ but rather ‘We adopt Jones et al.’s (2015) proposal that…)

2. Do not include personal acknowledgements as part of your submission. Acknowledgements should be included in the final, to-be-published version only.  Caution should also be taken with acknowledgements to funding sources and with mentions of research locations, as those might also reveal author identity. This information should be added to the final version of the paper.

3. With Microsoft Office documents, author identification should also be removed from the properties for the file.

For Macintosh Word 2008 (and future versions)

  1. Under the File menu select "Properties."
  2. Under the Summary tab remove all of the identifying information from all of the fields.
  3. Save the File.

For Microsoft 2007 (Windows):

  1. Click on the office button in the upper-left hand corner of the office application
  2. Select "Prepare" from the menu options.
  3. Select "Properties" for the "Prepare" menu options.
  4. Delete all of the information in the document property fields that appear under the main menu options.
  5. Save the document and close the document property field section.

For Microsoft 2010 (Windows):

  1. Under the File menu select "Prepare for sharing."
  2. Click on the "Check for issues" icon.
  3. Click on "inspect document" icon.
  4. Uncheck all of the checkboxes except "Document Properties and Personal information".
  5. Run the document inspector, which will then do a search of the document properties and indicated if any document property fields contain any information.
  6. If the document inspector finds that some of the document properties contain information it will notify you and give you the option to "Remove all," which you will click to remove the document properties and personal information from the document.

For Microsoft 2003 and previous versions, and Macintosh versions of Word:

  • Under the File menu select: Save As > Tools (or Options with a Mac) > Security > Remove personal information from file properties on save > Save.

For PDF files

  • Authors' names should be removed from Document Properties, which can be found under File on Adobe Acrobat's main menu.

Licences

The following licences are allowed:

  • CC BY 4.0
Attribution — You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. You may do so in any reasonable manner, but not in any way that suggests the licensor endorses you or your use. No additional restrictions — You may not apply legal terms or technological measures that legally restrict others from doing anything the license permits.

Publication Fees

In principle, authors publishing in Glossa Psycholinguistics face no financial obligation for the publication of their article. In accordance with principles of Fair Open Access, submission and publication are not conditional on the payment of a fee.

We do ask authors who have access to funds earmarked for an article processing charge (APC) through their institution, or to publication funds via research grants, to use those funds to cover the $500 USD APC of their publication in Glossa Psycholinguistics.

The APC covers all publication costs (editorial processes; web hosting; indexing; marketing; archiving; DOI registration etc.) and ensures that all of the content is fully open access. Shortly after publication, authors who have access to earmarked funds for the APC will receive an invoice along with information on how payment can be arranged.

Authors who do not have access to such funds will inform the editors upon submission to confirm that they have consulted their institutional library or department, and do not have access to such earmarked institutional or grant funds for the APC. This information will then be logged with the submission.

Authors can also make a donation of their choice to support publication of Glossa Psycholinguistics. Donations over $1000 will be acknowledged on the home page.

Publication Cycle

The journal is published online as a continuous volume and issue throughout the year. Articles are made available as soon as they are ready to ensure that there are no unnecessary delays in getting content publicly available. Special collections of articles are welcomed and will be published as part of the normal issue, but also within a separate collection page.
